Srinagar, June 25 -- The rain lashed areas including Srinagar and Anantnag, offering welcome respite from unusually high temperatures. Residents in Srinagar expressed joy as cool winds swept the city following the downpour.

The relief, however, came after the Valley witnessed an all-time high night temperature for the month of June. Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 25degC on Tuesday night - the highest ever for June, and nearly 8degC above normal.

The popular tourist resort of Pahalgam also experienced its warmest June night on record, with a low of 18.8degC, officials from the Meteorological Department said.
