Srinagar, March 10 -- Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam said that it is obligatory for every Muslim, including men, women, and infants, to pay Sadaqat-ul-Fitr before Eid-ul-Fitr prayers.

He stressed that the contribution should be made in advance so that the less fortunate can also partake in the Eid celebrations.

According to Mufti Nasir, the prescribed amount is equivalent to 1.75 kg of wheat per person, and after consultation with Islamic scholars, it has been valued at Rs: 75 this year. He added that individuals should pay this amount for themselves and their minor children, while adult, financially independent children should contribute on their own.
