Srinagar, March 24 -- Responding to a query by MLA Ahsan Ahmad Pardesi in the Legislative Assembly, the Public Works (R&B) Department stated that a motorable bridge was initially planned and its foundation laid, but it was ultimately constructed as a footbridge.

The department cited a communication from the Chief Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control Kashmir, dated April 2, 2016, which revoked the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the project due to concerns that the bridge's height would require raising road levels on both the Convent and GPO sides by approximately 2.5 meters, making it impractical for vehicular movement.
