Srinagar, June 15 -- Every year, about 600 million people get sick and 420,000 lose their lives from eating contaminated or adulterated food, with people in poorer countries hit hardest.

These aren't just numbers. They're people suffering from preventable illnesses caused by bacteria, viruses, or harmful chemicals in food.

The day which dawns on June 7 every year pushes governments, farmers, businesses, and even us at home, to step up, keep food clean and safe, and make sure what we eat nourishes rather than harms. It's about saving lives and making health a priority for all.
