Srinagar, June 3 -- Effective from May 26, schools within Srinagar's municipal limits now operate from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., while those outside function from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The DSEK stated the shift was implemented to mitigate the impact of rising temperatures. However, on the ground, parents report the new schedule is having the opposite effect.
"Our kids are now waking up even earlier than before, barely getting proper rest. And by the time they leave school, around 2:30, the sun is at its peak - harsher than the morning hours," a parent from Srinagar said.
