Srinagar, Aug. 9 -- From the early hours, long queues formed along the steep pathway leading to the centuries-old temple perched above the picturesque Dal Lake. Men, women, and children carrying decorated prayer plates (puja thalis) patiently waited for their turn to pay obeisance.
"This is my first time marking the festival in Srinagar, and the spiritual atmosphere here at Shankaracharya Temple is truly uplifting," said a devotee from Jammu.
Temple officials said special arrangements were in place to manage the heavy rush of pilgrims. "We had a large turnout today. Pilgrims came not just from Kashmir but from various parts of the country," said one official.
