Srinagar, Feb. 12 -- Replying to a question in Parliament, Minister of State (MoS) Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar said that the 2022 figures show a rise in sexual violence, domestic abuse, and other crimes against women, raising concerns about women's safety in the region.

According to the data, J&K recorded 3,716 cases of crimes against women in 2022, compared to 3,937 in 2021 and 3,405 in 2020. "While there was a slight drop in the total number of cases from 2021, the conviction rate remains alarmingly low."

In 2022, only 68 cases led to convictions, while 922 cases ended in acquittals.

Meanwhile, the number of persons arrested under crimes against women stood at 6,309, but only 155 were convicted, it reads.
