Srinagar, May 7 -- The woman, around 45, had arrived from Rajouri just two weeks ago with her family. Like many Gujjar-Bakerwal families, they'd been camping each summer in Nishat's Gupkar Mohalla for over two decades. Her husband and sons, returning from work that evening, found her missing. When they searched nearby forests, they found her still alive, barely.

"One of the men was covered in blood," her son was quoted as saying. "We caught him before he could run. My mother was breathing. We rushed her to the hospital, but she didn't survive."
