Srinagar, July 29 -- According to figures shared by Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, J&K recorded 1,837 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in 2022 - a 50% increase from 1,222 cases in 2020. However, the conviction rate remains stagnant at 41.3% for the second consecutive year, despite improving from a dismal 15.7% in 2020.

In contrast, neighbouring Ladakh registered just eight NDPS cases in 2022 but reported a 100% conviction rate, highlighting sharper judicial resolution in a smaller caseload.
