Srinagar, March 6 -- In a written response to a question of MLA Mir Mohammad Fayaz in the Assembly, chief minister Omar Abdullah, who happens to be in-charge of the Housing and Urban Development department informed that currently, 33 Mechanical Segregation Machines are operational in J&K for effective waste management.
He assured that additional machines are being procured under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) as per the approved plan, following the proper procurement process.
So far, 4.26 lakh metric tons of legacy waste dumped at open landfill sites across various districts of the Union Territory has been successfully bio-remediated, as per the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules 2016. (KNO)
