Srinagar, June 26 -- A senior journalist in Kashmir was arrested in a decades' old case during a midnight raid by police at his home here on Monday.

Ghulam Jeelani Qadri, 62, editor and publisher of Urdu daily Afaaq, was arrested at around 11:30 Monday night from his home in Balgarden in a case registered against him and seven others back in 1990.

Qadri was locked up in Shaheed Gunj police station for the night and was produced in front of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar, Gowhar Majid Dalal, on Tuesday.

Releasing Qadri on bail immediately, the court, as per Qadri's brother Morifat, directed police to explain how come was he "declared absconding" when he was issued passport twice during the period.
