Nigeria, April 24 -- The governing council of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) in Bauchi State has taken decisive action by dismissing Usman Aliyu, a PhD lecturer, following a guilty verdict for sexual harassment against a married postgraduate student. Zailani Bappa, the university's public relations director, confirmed the dismissal during an interview with NAN on Thursday.

The decision was made during the 96th regular meeting of the governing council, which took place on April 11, 2025. According to Bappa, the senior staff disciplinary committee conducted a thorough investigation before confirming Aliyu's guilt in the matter involving a student from the chemical engineering department.
