Nigeria, Jan. 28 -- The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kwara State has dismissed concerns over the resignation of its 2023 governorship candidate, Hakeem Lawal, insisting that the development poses no threat to the party's strength, structure, or ideological direction.

In a statement jointly signed by the party's state Chairman, Barrister Ibrahim Sharafdeen, and the Secretary, Ibrahim Olamilekan Quadri, the SDP described Lawal's exit as an exercise of his constitutional right to freedom of association rather than a setback for the party.
