Nigeria, July 22 -- The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) has issued a new flood alert, warning that 27 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are at significant risk of flooding between Tuesday and August 5.

In a statement released on Monday, NIHSA's Director General, Mr. Umar Mohammad, indicated that over 739 communities and 162 Local Government Areas are expected to be impacted during this period. "This alert is consistent with our 2025 Annual Flood Outlook (AFO) released on April 10," he noted.

The states identified under the red alert include Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, FCT, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Ondo, Plate...
