Nigeria, June 25 -- The Niger State government has announced the immediate closure of the Ibrahim Babangida University Lapai over insecurity issues bedevilling the institution.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the Niger State Government, Abubakar Usman, on Wednesday June 25, 2025.

Recall that a student of the institution was killed in the early hours of Monday during a suspected armed robbery incident at a students' lodge in the Ndakikpabu area of the town.

The victim, identified as Jafar, was reportedly stabbed in the neck by the assailants around 2:30 a.m. and later died at the General Hospital in Lapai, where he was taken for treatment.
