Nigeria, Aug. 31 -- The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured victory in 20 of the 23 local government areas in the Chairmanship and Councillorship elections held on Saturday.

The results, announced on Sunday by Dr. Michael Odey, the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), highlight a dramatic defeat for the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which only clinched three LGAs.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara's performance was notably impacted, as he lost his own Opobo-Nkoro Local Government Area to the APC.

This shift in power dynamics represents a meaningful challenge to the PDP's influence in the state as the newly elected officials prepare to take office.
