Nigeria, June 13 -- The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has staunchly defended the N 39 billion spent on renovating the International Conference Centre in Abuja, asserting that the upgrade was both comprehensive and necessary.

Speaking at the commissioning of the newly completed Left-Hand Service Carriageway, Wike highlighted that the entire facility was rebuilt except for the original block structure.

Wike noted that the centre was initially constructed for N240 million in 1991 during the regime of former Head of State Ibrahim Babangida, but he justified the current expenditure by pointing to the vast changes in commodity prices over the decades.
