Bangladesh, May 19 -- During Ramadan, Zakat payers distribute goods and clothes to the poor. Instead of queuing up for their dues, the poor people often rush to get the clothes and goods. Such attempts lead to dangerous stampedes where many people are injured and even killed.

Islam as a faith does not support any form of showing off in the name of donations. People who donate sometimes hide their real motive of enhancing their popularity in the area. Two years ago, 10 lives were lost in Shatkania, Chattogram during a stampede that occurred at a zakat-giving ceremony.
