Bangladesh, June 26 -- A writ petition was filed with the High Court (HC) on Tuesday seeking its directives to prevent unnecessary caesarean sections in the country.

Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman filed the petition.

The HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader is likely to hear the writ on Wednesday, said Suman.

According to WHO and UNICEF reports, about 77 per cent of the caesarean sections that took place in Bangladesh last year were unnecessary. Besides, caesarean sections increased by 51 per cent between 2016 and 2018.
