Dhaka, Aug. 1 -- BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday called upon the government to take immediate steps to tackle the floods shunning its "attitude of negligence" towards the miseries of victims.

"We've instructed and requested our leaders and workers to stand by the flood-hit people of the entire country. At the same time, we urge the government to take immediate steps to help the flood-affected people, discarding their indifference," he said.

Fakhrul made the call while talking to reporters after paying homage to BNP founder Ziaur Rahman together with party senior leaders by placing a wreath on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, reports UNB.
