Dhaka, March 11 -- The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday upheld a High Court order that on Sunday stayed a decision of the government to keep the primary and secondary schools open in Ramadan.

Justice M Enayetur Rahim, Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division of the SC, passed the order following a petition filed by the state challenging the High Court order.

The Chamber Judge, however, sent the petition to its full bench for hearing on Tuesday.

The primary and secondary schools will remain shut on Tuesday, the first day of Ramadan this year, following the Chamber Judge's order, said the lawyer of the writ petitioner.
