Dhaka, Feb. 22 -- The directorate general of health services (DGHS) has banned administering anaesthesia in doctors' chambers and diagnostic centres except in registered hospitals and clinics.

In addition, no type of operation can be performed without a specialist recognised by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council, the DGHS said in an order on Thursday, local media reported.

Earlier on Tuesday night, a 10-year-old child died while undergoing circumcision at the JS Diagnostic and Medical Checkup Centre in Dhaka city's Malibagh Chowdhuryparha.
