Dhaka, Feb. 4 -- Exporters of used Japanese vehicles request Bangladesh to recognise and introduce JUMVEA (Japan Used Motor Vehicle Exporters Association) certificate aiming to check possible malpractices in the import of old cars.

Sources said the JUMVEA has recently pleaded with the Bangladesh embassy in Japan to send the appeal to the authorities concerned for steps regarding the issue.

"We have received the request and are scrutinising the issue," said a commerce ministry official.

An estimated 130 countries globally, including the USA, Russia and New Zealand, import used cars from Japan.

The JUMVEA has introduced a certificate that provides car-related information as per the request of different countries.
