Dhaka, April 4 -- Leaders of various ICT trade bodies have called for an extension of the sector's current tax exemption period by seven years until 2031, aiming to implement the government's vision of a Smart Bangladesh.

They made the demand during a press conference held at the BASIS Auditorium on Thursday, as the corporate tax exemption for the ICT sector is set to expire in June this year.

Any reduction could hinder the growth of the domestic private ICT sector and jeopardise the retention of highly valuable foreign currency within the country, they warned.
