Dhaka, Jan. 28 -- The High Court on Sunday ordered the formation of a high-powered committee to inquire into the abnormal price hikes of various agricultural products like potatoes, eggs and onions.

The Commerce Secretary has been asked to comply with this order and to submit a report in the court within 30 days.

The High Court bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Atabullah passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed in this regard as a public interest litigation.

The court also issued a rule asking officials concerned of the government to explain as to why their failure to prevent price hiking of these products should not be declared illegal.
