Bangladesh, Jan. 17 -- Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader said on Thursday the government is not interfering in elections to the Dhaka south and north city corporations.

The AL leader came up with the remarks while speaking at a press conference on contemporary issues at Secretariat in the city.

Responding to BNP's allegation of influencing the EC's work, Quader said, "The Election Commission (EC) is not working at the order of the government. It is working independently."

He said the government is not interfering in the election process. "It will never happen," he added.
