Dhaka, Feb. 12 -- The volume of classified loans in the country's banking sector decreased by Tk 97.65 billion in the last three months till December 2023, according to official data.

As such, the outstanding volume of non-performing loans (NPLs) in banks stood at Tk 1.46 trillion at the end of 2023, which is 9.0 per cent of the entire loans given to various sectors, the latest statistics of Bangladesh Bank (BB) showed.

Compared to the NPLs-related data of its previous quarter (July-September), the volume of bad loans in banks declined by 93 basis points, with the overall outstanding NPLs recorded at Tk 1.55 trillion as of September 30, 2023.
