Dhaka, April 28 -- Experts at a programme on Saturday called for declaring heatwaves a disaster and providing humanitarian assistance to the families who have lost members due to extreme heat.

They also called for the inclusion of heat issues in climate change-related policies and plans, the promotion of adaptative social protection for heat stress areas, and the consideration of heat management as part of environmental compliance in Bangladesh Labour Act.

The speakers emphasised the need to enhance capacity and innovation to support livelihoods, particularly in climate-affected regions, by ensuring access to decent jobs, fair wages, and promoting occupational health and well-being.
