Dhaka, April 1 -- The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has recommended reducing bus fares by 3 paisa per kilometre.

A committee responsible for fixing bus fares came up with the recommendation during a meeting at the BRTA office on Monday following the recent reduction in diesel prices. BRTA chairman Nur Mohammad Mazumder presided over the meeting.

The committee has proposed the fare of intercity buses at Tk 2.12 per kilometre instead of Tk 2.15 per kilometre. It proposed the fare of city buses at Tk 2.42 per kilometre instead of Tk 2.45 per kilometre.

The BRTA has sent the recommended fare to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges. The ministry would decide on the final approval of the fare.
