Bangladesh, Jan. 23 -- Bangladesh has gained eight places on the latest Democracy Index, compared to the previous year, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit, or EIU.

Although there was no big movement at the top and bottom of the index, there have been sizeable movements in the rankings elsewhere with Bangladesh among the countries making 'notable improvements', according to EIU's findings.

Bangladesh is ranked 80th with an overall score of 5.88 on the Democracy Index 2019. It is up from the 88th position with a score of 5.57 a year ago.
