Bangladesh, March 19 -- ASA, a non-government organisation (NGO), has paid an amount of Tk 12.2 million in value added tax (VAT) on Monday, following a demand notice of the VAT authority, said a statement of Dhaka West VAT zone.

The NGO apprised the commissioner of the zone after depositing the money to the public exchequer.

Talking to the FE, Dhaka West VAT zone Commissioner Moinul Khan said the NGO has paid the VAT within the given timeframe.

"The NGO has responded promptly to the VAT authority's notice. We are convinced that the VAT was not evaded by the NGO intentionally," he said.

Earlier, the VAT West zone's audit team had detected a number of VAT-applicable transactions, but ASA did not deposit the tax.
