Dhaka, Nov. 30 -- Bangladesh has done exceptionally well in reducing poverty in the last five decades. Since its independence, poverty has fallen from above 80 per cent to 24.3 per cent in 2016. Various poverty alleviation and production-oriented schemes, large inflows of workers' remittances, and target group-oriented projects from the government and non-government organisations (NGOs) have helped in poverty reduction and transformed the rural economy.
