Dhaka, April 27 -- As many as 265 illegal immigrants of various nationalities, including 138 Bangladeshis, were arrested on Friday in separate raids in different parts of the capital city of the Malaysian state of Johor, The Star reported.

The operations were carried out following public complaints about the influx of foreign residents causing concern in the local community, according to the report.

The detained immigrants were accused of entering the country without valid travel documents, overstaying, violating the terms of their pass, and violating the social visit pass.

A local Malaysian was also detained for harbouring illegal immigrants, Johor Immigration Director Baharuddin Tahir said.
