Dhaka, March 14 -- Bangladesh's 1.07 million children are engaged in hazardous work, a government survey said.

Out of 3.54 million working children in the country, 1.78 million are child labourers, while 1.07 million are engaged in hazardous work, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS)' National Child Labour Survey 2022 report showed.

The report was unveiled on Thursday in Dhaka at an event where State Minister for Planning Shahiduzzaman Sarker was present as the chief guest.

According to the survey, some 39.96 million children in Bangladesh are between the ages of 5 and 17.

The survey showed that out of 3.54 million child labourers, some 2.73 million are working in rural areas, while 0.81 million are in urban areas.
