Bangladesh, March 19 -- Adoption of modern technologies for introducing value added diversified products is a must for tapping the potential of the country's jute sector, discussants said at a seminar on Monday.

They also called for conducting proper research into innovative jute goods.

The speakers made the observations at the seminar on 'Diversification of Jute Products: Prospects and Impediments' organised by Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) in the city.

Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman, executive director of Power and Participation Research Centre (PPRC), said after garments and remittances, jute is a potential sector that could be a new economic driver.
