NEW DELHI, March 23 -- A citizen petition filed with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration aims to resolve the labeling issue for the use of dairy terms with the growing variety of products in the marketplace.

"The National Milk Producers Federation is requesting the commissioner to take action to resolve the long-standing problem surrounding the labeling of plant-based versions of standardized dairy products," said Tom Balmer, NMPF executive vice president.

The FDA recently held a comment period on the labeling issue and received over 13,000 comments.
