Tanzania, March 30 -- Arusha. The East African Community (EAC) leaders will meet on April 15th to discuss the imminent exit of Peter Mathuki as secretary general.

The extraordinary Summit of Heads of State will be held virtually, impeccable sources told The Citizen.

The summit has been convened by President Salva Kiir Mayardit, the current chairperson of the eight-nation EAC bloc.

Dr Mathuki, a Kenyan national, is set to vacate the position after receiving a withdrawal notice as the secretary general from the Kenyan government.

The outgoing SG has been at the helm of the EAC as its chief executive since February 2021, following his nomination by Kenya and appointment by the EAC summit.
