Tanzania, Feb. 29 -- Arusha. The East African Community (EAC) has not yet decided on new applications for observer status by non-state bodies affiliated with it.

That will be until a study is concluded to ascertain the impact created by such organisations on the integration agenda.

"The Council of Ministers has stayed applications for observer status," said the EAC director of Social Sectors Dr Irene Kisaka.

She told journalists here on Tuesday that a study is underway to ascertain the impact of such organisations on the integration process.

"We also want to know the tangible benefits EAC is getting or will get from such NGOs affiliated with it," she added on the sidelines of a regional meeting.
