New Delhi, Jan. 9 -- The country is going through difficult times and such petitions do not help the cause, said Chief Justice SA Bobde on a petition to declare the citizenship law "constitutional".

The three-judge bench also comprising Justices B.R. Gavai and Surya Kant said they would hear the petitions challenging the constitutionality of the Citizenship Amendment Act once the nation-wide violence stops.

"There is already so much of violence," the bench said.

The court's observation came when an advocate, Vineet Dhanda, sought the listing of his plea asking that the CAA be declared constitutional, and also instruction from the court to all states to implement it.
