India, July 28 -- Basavaraj Bommai 61, sworn in as the 30th Chief Minister of Karnataka on July 28. He took the oath in the name of God in the presence of several BJP prominent leaders.

The former state Home Minister belongs to the powerful Lingayat community of Karnataka.

Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot administered the oath of office and secrecy, in the presence of senior Bharatiya Janata Party leaders, including former chief minister B.S. Yediyurappa, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and BJP Karnataka in-charge Arun Singh.

After he took the oath at Raj Bhawan, Bomai told reporters - My first priority is the ongoing flood and controlling the Covid-19 pandemic.
