New Delhi, Jan. 4 -- Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has deferred his visit to India and Japan which was scheduled in January as he battles a bushfire emergency at home.

This would have been Scott Morrison's first visit to India after taking charge as the Australian Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had extended an invitation to Morrison to visit India, sources said.

On January 3, during a telephonic conversation with PM Scott Morrison, PM Modi conveyed his heartfelt condolences on behalf of all Indians and on his own behalf on the damage to life and property in Australia due to severe and prolonged bushfires.
