New gantry cranes will strengthen SLPA operations- Ports Authority chief
Sri Lanka, March 3 -- The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) will receive two more STS gantry cranes by April this year to be deployed at the East Container Terminal (ECT) of the Colombo Port.
Chairman, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Keith Bernard said that with the arrival of the two cranes and the three new STS gantry cranes they received earlier this year the ECT would send back three cranes to the Jaya Container Terminal. "This will strengthen its operations as well," he said.
The cost of the cranes is being borne by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA).
He said that with the Red Sea crisis they are experiencing high volumes of cargo and the use of the new equipment will help them to clear cargo at a faster rate.
