Singapore, Dec. 8 -- The UK General Election enters its final week and nothing, not even the national game, is off-limits to politicians chasing the popular vote.

"Labour will put fans at the heart of football by giving them a far greater say over the way their clubs are run," pledges Rosena Allin-Khan, the shadow sports minister. "We will provide them a say over who their manager is, allow them safe standing, and make sure all stadiums are fully accessible."

Given that two-thirds of the players and managers in the English Premier League are imported, and the majority of the clubs are owned by foreigners, those pledges might not be parliament's to lay down.
