Singapore, April 9 -- Natalie Portman went vegan after reading Eating Animals, the 2009 non-fiction bestseller detailing the dark side of factory farming.

But although the Oscar-winning actress (Black Swan, 2010) has produced and narrated a documentary based on that book, she does not want viewers to feel judged when they watch it because she hates feeling judged herself.

She does, however, want to educate people about the toll that large-scale industrialised farming has on animals, small farmers and the environment.

Yet, the 38-year-old hesitates to come right out and ask people to give up meat-eating.
