India, Feb. 9 -- A major fire broke out at the Sewage Farm in Vidyaranyapuram this noon, engulfing five to six garbage mounds, including plastic waste. The fire spread rapidly due to intense heat, triggering prompt response from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services. Over 40 fire personnel and one fire engine are battling the flames. Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Environment Engineer Sridevi told Star of Mysore that efforts are underway to contain the fire. Thick smoke and toxic fumes from burning plastic have affected nearby residents and fire fighters, who are wearing masks for protection. Officials estimate it could take over two hours to fully extinguish the fire.
