The Vasavilan-Palaly main road, closed for 34 years, was officially reopened for public use on 10 April 2025. This long-awaited event follows persistent requests from residents in the area and the general public under the direction of the Government of Sri Lanka.

The road, which passes through a high security zone and military establishments, has been reopened with specific regulations in place to ensure national security. With its reopening, civilians can now travel more efficiently from Vasavilan to the airport.
