Colombo, Sri Lanka, Dec. 10 -- Ministry of Defence and Urban Development issued the following news release:

The Sri Lanka Army has been deployed to support emergency restoration of several critical irrigation structures severely affected by the recent cyclone, which caused widespread damage across multiple districts.

Troops are currently engaged in repair work at the Siyambalagaswewa Tank, where urgent rehabilitation is underway to stabilize the structure and ensure uninterrupted water supply to surrounding communities.

In addition, Army personnel have been assigned to assist the Irrigation Department and the Mahaweli Authority in restoring the ancient Elahera Anicut, a historically significant waterway vital for agricultural activities ...
