The SLAF has achieved a significant step in indigenous Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) development of the Vimana SII surveillance drone. Developed by the Aeronautical Research and Development Wing (AR&DW) at SLAF Station Katukurunda under the supervision of the Commanding Officer of AR&DW, Group Captain Manjula Abeywickrama, since 2024.
The official handover ceremony took place today (28 March 2025) with the participation of engineering officers and technicians from AR&DW, along with representatives from No. 27 Regiment Wing at SLAF Base Ratmalana.
