New Delhi, Jan. 19 -- US diplomat Ross Wilson has arrived in Kabul to start work at the US embassy as a charge d'affaires until a permanent ambassador is chosen.

"I am excited to start work at the US embassy in Kabul during this crucial time in the history of Afghanistan."

"Be it Afghan elections, the quest for peace, or other priorities, my country and I strongly support all Afghans as they choose the future of this proud country," he said.

Wilson, a retired career ambassador, was previously the top American diplomat in Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia and follows John Bass, whose two-year tenure ended in December, Tolo News reported.
