New Delhi, Dec. 16 -- The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is reshaping India's residential power systems, resulting in over 7.7 lakh households experiencing zero electricity bills after installing rooftop solar systems.

Launched in February 2024, the scheme aims to make clean energy accessible and ease the financial burden on households. As of December 9, a total of 19,45,758 rooftop solar systems have been installed, benefiting 24,35,196 households.

The initiative targets creating rooftop solar installations in one crore households by FY 2026-27, with a budget of Rs 75,021 crore, fostering energy self-reliance and supporting India's clean energy transition.
